Theresa Heinz series of work, "Intentional" will be on display at the studio beginning June 1, 2017.
Artist Statement Provided by The Fountain Arts Center
"As a native of Western New York, Theresa is continually and intrinsically influenced by her rural surroundings. The colors and contours of typography around us figure heavily in her landscape paintings. Her work is a direct reflection of an response to her "sense of place."
Theresa's vision and mind are saturated with local color. She feels compelled to record this using only transparent primaries and various media, including: watercolor, interactive acrylic, and oil.
Theresa attempts to draw or paint daily, believing that as an artist, the process should be a significant part of each day. She also strives to ensure that all marks and brush strokes are "intentional," as five minutes of unintentional work can easily undo five hours of careful painting. Theresa believes that creating visual art is as much or more cerebral activity as it is a physical one, and that as artists, we must spend a great deal of time looking, and considering before any pencil or brush meets the paper or canvas."
"Theresa earned a BFA in MS in Arts Education from Alfred University. She has had several one-woman shows, and is an award-winning Plein Air artist, with paintings in private and corporate collections across the country.
Theresa has a wide gamut of teaching experience, from public high schools, community colleges, university, and private plein air workshops. She has been married to her husband for 35 years, and has two grown children. When not painting, she can be found gardening or cooking."
