"I use painting to both explore and release my emotions: ones I am aware of, and those beneath the surface. My work is, in part, both my ongoing description of, and my path through, fifteen years of clinical depression. Although each piece is intensely personal in meaning, I try to keep the emotions universal enough for the viewer to identify.
Allegory and story figure heavily in most works, and clues to personal meaning may be found in my symbols and vocabulary; however, conveying my own "story" is not my primary aim. Rather, I prefer to let each work be a mirror rather than a declaration. I only bring out just enough of the ieda to allow you to see the glimpse you might need to. I entrust you to imbue your own meaning to the painting.
My process is based on looseness of thought and form. Starting with a blank canvas, and no plan or idea, I begin making marks. I filter as little as possible, and my pieces are in flux up to the moment I finish. My hope is that you can see, through my inner world, a glimpse of yourself." ~ Patrick Foster
