Seeking a New Public Space for this Original Art
To increase awareness around mental health concerns related to arachnoiditis and other chronic pain conditions, it is time to find a new public space for these original works created to promote Arachnoiditis Awareness and Prevention at The Art For Arachnoiditis Project.
First displayed in the 2013 Show: A Round Now In A Square Time as part of the Facing Phases series, this work recognizes the healing properties of embracing fleeting moments of grace experienced within the repetitive cycles of time which establish the human condition.
Each image is intended to capture, or freeze-frame, within the square of the picture plane, some point on this circular time line.
Some of these images express the duality which exists at key transition points between these phases of the human experience.
Life is a perpetual circle of pain, relief, celebration, and grief. Chronic pain must be faced with an exponentially increased determination to focus on the discovery of grace within that circle. Without grace, life is just motion looking for a place to rest.

Allegiance~ A Pledge for Humanity
(This is a public post I wrote for the BOFA facebook page in response to the Sacred Sisters Full Moon Circle Pledge of Allegiance to the Earth. The image below is from that page.)
"The power to make up reality is a power that can be used for good or evil. The duality of human nature indicates that it will be used for both." ~slk
Because I respect and believe in the potential of humanity, my pledge to the Earth is in alignment with my pledge of allegiance to this Nation.
This 4th of July I remind myself that our nation is a work in progress full of people capable of following through on the original intentions of the constitution and capable of allowing those intentions to evolve to suit modern times. READ MORE

In 2014, inspired by The Culture of Possibility: Art, Artists & the Future by Arlene Goldbard; I created the Art For Arachnoiditis Project to increase awareness and promote prevention while giving myself and other survivors the valuable connections, support, and creative opportunities we need.
ART FOR ARACHNOIDITIS SURVIVORS
Started as one-to-one Survivor Portrait Project in the Western NY Wilds of Allegany County, NY; the Art For Arachnoiditis project eventually became an international Creative Wellness Project serving survivors in 93 countries (WordPress Report 2015). Fiscally sponsored by the New York Foundation for the Arts, the project was most active from 2014 to 2018.

12.29.09-Still Standing Installation At JMH October-December 2009
Still Standing is a photographic documentation of the cyclic nature of the chronic pain experience. Each frame demonstrates the artist's interpretation of a season in the cycle of coping with chronic pain. The work illustrates the balance that may be found in adaptation. The circular installment and positioning of each frame displays the endless repetition of the cycle and the grace that can be found in the fleeting moments of acceptance. Each photograph was taken by the artist to record locations on the road to recovery. (These are scenes from the Greenway Snowmobile trail that runs through Belfast, NY.) The images are framed by paper sculpture which amplifies the significance of the view at each location. The paper sculpture process was used as part of the artist's personal healing process to recover fine motor skills from May to September 2009. This work is intended for display in pain management and rehabilitation clinics.
This installation displayed at Jones Memorial Hospital Rehabilitation Services from October -December 2009 and will be on display again as part of Facing Phases series. Location TBA
