"Ever since Betsy Ross created the first flag for the United States, the familiar symbols of stars and stripes have graced and innumerable pieces of Americana throughout the last two centuries. The colors and patterns have appeared in quilts, paintings, drawings, woodwork, vehicles, and clothing, to name a few. They have been used to mark homesteads with banners of patriotism, declare loyalty to the USA, and proclaim the majesty and the strength of the American spirit.
In the manner of resourceful pioneers, Students and Friends of the Fountain Arts Center have recycled fabric, shutters, wood scraps, metal panels, and old frames, and recreated new images of Americana featuring the Stars & Stripes, ant the mighty Eagle, on backdrops of red, white, and blue. Other pieces in the collection are reprints of historic documents, famous paintings and illustrations, and renderings and stylized graphics by local artists.
Enjoy this tribute to "Old Glory," the enduring symbol of American spirit and thought."
